Partnering on Dark Skies

For the past several years, the Friends worked closely with the Oracle Dark Skies Committee to achieve Oracle State Park’s official designation by the International Dark Skies Association as an “International Dark Skies Park.” We owe a debt of gratitude to FOSP member Mike Weasner for spearheading this initiative.

In our role, the Friends has helped to sponsor countless star-gazing events for the community, with telescopes and expertise provided by the local Saddlebrooke Star Gazers Club and Tucson Amateur Astronomer’s Association.

This year, the Friends and the Park are partnering with the University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2 to host Arizona Dark Sky Star Party II, a star-gazing celebration featuring astronomy experts from around the world.
